West Shore Medical Center (WSMC)
West Shore Medical Center is an independent, non-profit, municipal hospital. WSMC has a regional network agreement with Munson Healthcare in Traverse City to facilitate patient access to tertiary health care services.
Recent improvements at WSMC reflect the needs of the area population, including 24-hour staffing of the emergency room by board-certified emergency medicine physicians and ambulance services that are operated from two locations in the county. Rehabilitation services, including physical and occupational therapy and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation have been expanded. Diagnostic radiology capabilities have been enhanced by continually adding equipment for ultrasound, mammography, computerized tomography, and nuclear medicine procedures. A network agreement with Munson Healthcare brings mobile MRI services and sleep disorders assessments to WSMC.
While staying current with the latest in medical technology, WSMC has kept an eye on what matters most - providing care with compassion and respect.
Child Care Connections Program
Child Care Connections is a program that’s absolutely free, available to anyone and can help families and individuals solve one of the most difficult issues that they may be facing: child care.
This program has been in existence, serving families, businesses and early childhood professionals, since 1979. They are available to help with:
- Child Care Referrals: referrals of qualified child care providers to individuals or businesses. Information on quality child care, children’s issues, child development and financial assistance for child care is available to families who qualify! Through Child Care Connections, you can receive information on 39 Manistee county providers of child care – including child care centers, group homes, family homes and preschools.
- Child Care Food Program: helps with food costs and assures a balanced and attractive diet for children in child care settings.
- Resources and information: Information about other services available to families in the community and resources on child development, balancing/work and family and childhood issues.

Human Services Collaborative Body (HSCB)
The Manistee County HSCB is a coalition of the public and private, non-profit health and human service agencies serving Manistee County. They meet monthly to work on issues of common interest. At present they are completing a strategic to help direct their focus over the next three years.

Manistee County 2-1-1
2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember, free-to-the-user phone number linking people with the services they need. Dialing 2-1-1 connects callers to a specialist who can assess the need and link the caller to the right solution using a comprehensive database of services -- federal, state and local; government and non-profit. For example, 2-1-1 offers access to basic human services, such as food banks and utility assistance; and physical and mental health resources, such as health insurance and drug or alcohol intervention.
People looking for assistance often have trouble navigating a complicated web of human service programs. Likewise, people who want to help often do not know where to begin. Manistee County 2-1-1 will provide citizens with information about and referral to human services for everyday needs and in times of crisis. The Manistee County database of information is currently being developed. This service will be available soon, offer 24-hour/365-day availability.
The State of Michigan has certified seven regional call centers. Community Action Line of the Lakeshore (C.A.L.L. 2-1-1) in Muskegon is currently serving Mason, Oceana, Ottawa and Muskegon counties. Manistee County will also be contracting with the C.A.L.L. 2-1-1 Regional Call Center.
