IDEAS AND INPUT SOUGHT:
DESIGN FOR MANISTEE LAKE PIER AT STRONACH
Stronach, Michigan – If you fish for salmon or lake-run rainbow trout in Manistee County or if you just like to spend time near the water, you won’t want to miss an opportunity to offer your ideas about the design of a new pier on Manistee Lake.
Representatives from the Manistee-based firm Abonmarche Consultants, Stronach Township and the Alliance for Economic Success will host a community forum on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stronach Township Hall to discuss the design of a universally accessible pier funded by a grant from the Great Lakes Fishery Trust to the Alliance for Economic Success. The grant was sought as a result of a “Access to Fresh Water” project stemming from a year-long project involving the state and national Easter Seals organization and a number of Manistee County organizations.
The community forum will provide for an in-depth review of the proposed Stronach Pier design, the timetable for installing the pier, and an information exhibit that will be located near the Pier to explain the project and its relationship to promoting access to migratory fish species like salmon and trout as well as other fish species.
“Manistee County is blessed with some of the finest angling opportunities available anywhere,” said grant author and Manistee County Community Foundation director Laura Heintzelman. “This project will extend and expand access to that fishery for people of all abilities at a location near the Little Manistee River mouth where thousands of trout and salmon return each year. It will also provide access to a wonderful inland lake fishery year-round.”
The Great Lakes Fishery Trust also provided a grant for a new fishing pier in the City of Manistee at the Arthur Street Boat launch. That pier will be developed in 2009 along with other site improvements.
