MANISTEE COUNTY SEEKS PROPOSALS TO PROVIDE
RECYCLING SERVICES
Manistee, Michigan – Proposals are being sought to provide recycling services for six of Manistee County’s fourteen townships that will participate in Phase 1 of the Manistee County Recycling Initiative. The Initiative is administered by the Alliance for Economic Success (AES) on behalf of Manistee County government. Responses to the Request for Proposals will be evaluated by a diverse Review Team consisting of nine individuals.
Study after study has shown that people in Manistee County support recycling and want a recycling program that is accessible, effective and affordable,” said Cyndy Fuller, Executive Director of the Alliance for Economic Success. “This is an important step forward in a much broader county-wide effort to conserve energy and natural resources, reduce waste and develop long-term solutions that are sustainable and make Manistee County a destination of choice for businesses, families, visitors and others.”
Proposals must be submitted by December 22, 2009 to collect, transport and recycle commingled paper and bottles, cans and other containers at four recycling service sites that will be used by residents of the six townships. Each township has entered into an inter-local agreement with Manistee County that enables the County to collect an annual total of twelve dollars from each resident in the township to cover the recycling program costs through December 31, 2010.
“On behalf of Manistee County and the leadership provided by the County’s ‘Green Team,’ we are seeking proposals from organizations that want to support recycling in Manistee County and be part of an effort to increase the number of participating governmental entities in the program,” Fuller said. “We are seeking funding to expand the program and provide increased county-wide information and education about why, how and where to recycle. Our schools and many of our manufacturers are already active in promoting recycling and we want all interests to become a partner in the recycling awareness campaign.”
