Manistee County, as like many communities in the United State, is experiencing an increase in the aging population.  As baby-boomers are beginning to reach retirement age, health care and social assistance employment continues to be a growing business sector.  Below are some of the most recent healthcare employment statistics available for Manistee County.

• In 2002, there were 75 health care and social assistance establishments in Manistee County, employing 1,161 individuals. 

• In 2002, the health care and social assistance sector accounted for 20.3% of the total annual payroll in Manistee County.

• The average weekly wage for a health care and social assistance employee in 2002 was $493, slightly higher than the average for all industries in Manistee County.
